Bharata or India is the cradle of all civilizations. The culture and traditions of the people of Bharata are based on the concept of Dharma. The Vedas are the repositories of this Dharma. The people of Bharata follow this Vedic Dharma also called the Sanaatana Dharma.

In the olden days, Vedic Dharma was taught in the Gurukulas. Therefore, people were aware about the Vedic Dharma. As times changed, English education has slowly replaced the traditional Gurukula system. Only a handful of true Gurukulas exist today, which preach true Vedic Dharma.

As a result, the teachings of the Vedas are beginning to be forgotten. The Vedas, which were the guiding lamps of mankind for time immemorial, are beginning to take a back seat with the advent of attractive and misleading Western Culture.

Today, there are still such persons who want to know the true meanings of the Vedas. They had no opportunity to learn Sanskrit, eventhough their fathers and grandfathers were great Vedic scholars, as they had to attend English schools for their livelihood. Therefore they were very unfortunate to miss a treasure of knowledge contained in the Vedas. The next generations started to move even farther with greater speeds, thanks to the invasion of western Media. As a result there is a danger of Bharata culture being totally wiped off from their hearts, a great shame indeed for any descendant of the Holy Land of Bharata.

Thus there is an urgent need to educate next generations about the Vedic Culture and its greatness. Many great Saints have come down to earth for the purpose of spreading the Vedic Dharma, but unfortunately their teachings cannot reach our next generations, as all of their teachings are in Sanskrit.

2. NEED FOR THIS SERIES OF PUBLICATIONS :

1. Most of the Adhyatmic books published in recent past are in initially Sanskrit, later in local languages like Kannada, Telugu and Tamil and there are less publications in English. Even the ones published in English lack quality in translation and interpretation.

Mere as-is translations of that kind fail to fully convey the intent of great works of our seers and sometimes tend them irrelevant to the present context, without necessary background information. Further, no matter how good a translation is, it still lacks the charm of the original.

2. Most of the English publications are usually authored by persons who are well versed in English but do not have a traditional Shastraic background. Their interpretations and understanding are limited compared to the Shastric Vidwan or the one who studied Shastra in a traditional Gurukula.

3. Translations do not cater to the needs of the beginners and are not tailored to the psychology of children. Usually, these books carry Sanskrit translations with most of the words in Sanskrit and Kannada, (regional language) and are addressed to elders who are not able to read and understand Sanskrit.

3. THE OBJECTIVES

1. Bring the reader the essence of Vedic teachings in the modern idiom.

2. Present the teachings in an interactive style.

3. Introduce basic to advanced concepts in a phased manner with necessary background information, so that a person with no acquaintance of the subject can also find a place to start off.

4. Make the subject relevant to the present context.

5. Take the reader slowly towards the language of the originals than keep him away from it.

4. IMPLEMENTATION.

To fulfill the above objectives, it is planned to bring the essence of the Vedic teachings in the form of a series of simple books called The Vedic Book Series. As the quintessence of all Vedic teachings is that Vishnu is to be always meditated, the first book is about Vishnu. The book Vishnu, is a pioneering attempt to introduce the concept of Vishnu in a planned manner. There are 4 levels in this series.

1. Tiny tots - For Children of Ages below 12.

2. Beginners - For Ages 12 and above.
